Did I promise these fortnightly?

(Checking blog….)

Oh…I did. Well, it’s been a month…over a month you say?

I ensure you I am much better at keeping my promises in real life. Except for the one about only eating sweets on the weekend. I think we can pretty much forget that one.

Anyway, let’s have a look at some of the interesting corners of the internet that have caught my eye in the last month.

Thoroughly Nourished Finds:

 For your dining pleasure:

Summer is here! Even if not technically, terminology wise, summer has definitely arrived in Brisbane. The last few weeks have been hot and sticky and now a wave of thunderstorms (my favourite!) is making for cool, wet evenings. Summer is my favourite eating season because of all the fresh produce and stone fruits. While I am lucky to live in a temperate climate, I try my best to eat seasonally, and I get so excited when I see Australian grown summer fruits arriving on the scene. It also means Christmas is nearly here (but we’ll get to that next fortnight).

All this hot, hot sun means tomatoes with be blushing, ripe, sweet and heavy and ready to be eaten in huge quantities very soon. This Onion and Tomato Galette will be a welcome guest on our dinner table sometime very soon.

I love fritters (of varying kinds) so you can bet that these Zucchini and Feta Fritters will make a few appearances on my plate to help me use up some of the zucchini crop this year.

Let’s talk snacks: how about chips? Sweet potato chips made at home? I like that.

Now for dessert: Raspberry Brulee, not only can you sing the name of your dessert to the tune of an 80’s classic, it also combines two of the most luxurious treats on earth (certainly two of my favourites); the taste of fresh mango is only just growing on me (I know, what’s wrong with me, I live in the state of the mango), but I have long loved mango in things such as this Mango Sherbert, which can be made in my new ice cream maker as soon as Dad’s mango tree decides to get in on the growing of some fruit; and finally, isn’t it time for a S’more revolution here in the land of Aus (s’morevolution as it shall henceforth be known) – let’s get on it this summer!

Get out the tissues – now!

This Dutch couple couldn’t conceive children of their own, so they decided to adopt. With one child already adopted, they decided to give him a sibling. They met their daughter for the first time on live television. Tear worthy.

Chris and I watched this the other night and I was sobbing by the thirty second mark. So grateful that there are organisations out there helping veterans get back on their feet.

My sister sent me the link to this story. I worked in a meal replacement weight loss program while I was making my way through university. And I felt like this letter expressed some of the things I always wanted to say to my clients once I left.

Get happy:

One of my friends shared this link on Facebook the other day and I read the whole list through in one greedy gulp. More ways to be happy – count me in! Also, a great reinforcement of the things you are already doing in your life to increase your happiness.

Numbers 1, 4, and 9 - check!

Get active (and stay happy):

New research has shown that exercise can help to prevent depression later in life – and the good news is that the amount of exercise is the same as that recommended for normal healthy living: a total of 150 minutes per week of moderate intensity exercise. So now you can stay healthy inside and out. A nourished body and nourished mind all at the same time.

There we are entertainment, inspiration, and salivation-incitement.

Your turn to share dear reader! Paste a link to something that has nourished you over the past few days: a recipe, photograph, article – let me know what tidbits you have found on the vast world wide web.
